Deirdre Lewis Art

logo

by Deirdre Lewis Mason

Born and raised in the deep South, Deirdre discovered a curiosity and love for art at an early age. After surviving an horrific car accident in 1988, and non-Hodgkins lymphoma shortly after she graduated from high school, Deirdre’s perception of the world around her was permanently changed and became Deirdre’s tool to embrace both the physical and emotional scars a broken back and cancer left. Still, Deirdre kept her love of drawing to herself as she moved to Charlottesville, VA to complete a degree in Women’s Studies where Deirdre graduated with High Honors. In addition to personal hardships, traveling across the globe led Deirdre to appreciate other people and cultures and helped Deirdre develop an even stronger appreciation for life and our diversity. With a fervent love of traveling and exploration, Deirdre feels incredibly lucky to have lived in both New Orleans and Australia, to have danced naked in the white sands of New Mexico and gone scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef. Deirdre’s sense of humor and playful demeanor contribute to the often whimsical and sometimes eccentric nature of her paintings. Deirdre now calls her native Birmingham, Alabama home and lives with her husband, kids, and a plethora of furry friends at her feet. She calls herself an activist, an artist, an empath, a collector, and most importantly, a mother.

Handmade Art Show Homewood

Handmade Art Show started in 1994 in a private home with just a handful of artists. It now showcases about 60 local artists.

Handmade is different from many other art shows because of it’s intimate size, featuring only local artists and is held in a neighborhood park.

Many Homewood residents walk to the show and consider Handmade their neighborhood art show.
