Eric Poland Art

by Eric Poland

Eric Poland is a Birmingham contemporary abstract illustrator with a focus on local architecture and nature. His artistic inspiration began as a child that he enjoyed drawing still life and landscapes. Now his primary inspiration comes from the buildings of the newly awakening city of Birmingham. His art is characterized by vivid colors, contrasting lines, and the abstraction of reality. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Montevallo in 2006. His senior art show concentrated more on editorial illustration, which used a combination of both hand drawn and computer illustration. This style is indicative of what he is creating now.
My work focuses on architecture, its role in nature, and man’s struggle for a perfect world. I start with a hand drawing, then I use illustration software to create my renderings; I then juxtapose it with a hand colored background. This program uses the same mathematical tools found in architectural software. Motivation comes from an inner desire to create my “perfect” world, full of vibrant colors and solid structure.

Handmade Art Show Homewood

Handmade Art Show started in 1994 in a private home with just a handful of artists. It now showcases about 60 local artists.

Handmade is different from many other art shows because of it’s intimate size, featuring only local artists and is held in a neighborhood park.

Many Homewood residents walk to the show and consider Handmade their neighborhood art show.
