Sister Art Pottery: Valerie Holley

by Valerie Holley

My love for craft began at 6 years of age. Making fancy mud pies decorated with mimosa blooms was a childhood passion.

Next came sewing, then cooking, followed by gardening. All of the craft experiences came together as I was nearing retirement from a 36 year nursing career. An opportunity to take a handbuilt pottery class presented itself and, boom all of the craft came together.

Each handbuilt piece requires different elements of past experiences. Making patterns, measuring slabs of clay, mixing glaze ingredients, and of course making clay flowers.

I share my studio with my sister Jill Lindsey and together we have fun working and creating as Sister Art Pottery.

Handmade Art Show Homewood

Handmade Art Show started in 1994 in a private home with just a handful of artists. It now showcases about 60 local artists.

Handmade is different from many other art shows because of it’s intimate size, featuring only local artists and is held in a neighborhood park.

Many Homewood residents walk to the show and consider Handmade their neighborhood art show.
