Sister Art Pottery: Jill Lindsey

by Jill Lindsey
Jill Lindsey is a potter that works from a home studio in Homewood, Al. She has been making pottery for about 10 years and loves participating in local art shows.
To achieve a unique look for every piece of pottery I use various clay colors, textures, and glazes. Pottery is made either on a wheel (wheel thrown) or by the slab technique (handbuilt). All of my pottery is handbuilt. Starting with a slab of clay, each piece is formed and designed by hand. When the pieces are completely dry — called green ware — I fire them in an electric kiln. After this first firing the pieces are called bisque ware. I then apply various glazes to the bisque pieces and fire the pottery a second time. After my final firing I always look forward to opening the kiln to see the finished pottery.
